Johnny O'Connor: Bringing Eric Elwood back is great bit of business
Everyone is talking about what Connacht's squad will look like next season, but I reckon the appointment of Eric Elwood as domestic rugby chief is the best bit of business they will do all year, writes Johnny O'Connor.
It's fantastic to have Eric back involved in the province. When he left he head coach's job he said he wanted some time away from the professional game to spend time with his family. This is the perfect job for him.
He is a great rugby man; he played all his rugby in Connacht, apart from his time with Lansdowne; he has great respect locally and a great relationship with the clubs.
It is a great appointment because you want a lot more Connacht people involved. No disrespect to Pat Lam and his coaches - they have been great for the development - but it's always nice to have a big local influence.
When you are away from it for a while, you get a real buzz when you go back into a sporting environment. It makes you happy, driven and ready to make a difference. Eric will make a huge impact, do his job and produce results: Eric always delivers on his promises.
