Galwegians cut loose to stretch lead

Galwegians stretched their lead at the top of division 1A to seven points – ahead of Westport – with an impressive 49-13 win over Ballina at Crowley Park.

The other game played in the top tier of Connacht Junior rugby last weekend saw Connemara pick up a 22-15 home win against Buccaneers.

The stand out game in J1B saw the top two battle it out in Tuam, with visitors Creggs winning. 

Elsewhere, Castlebar continued their good form with an 8-0 home win over Sligo to keep up their promotion push.

The final match of the round saw Ballyhaunis and Loughrea battle it out in a hard-fought encounter which ended in an 11-11 draw.

In J1C, Corrib and Dunmore were the standout performers.

Corrib produced arguably the performance of the weekend by inflicting a first defeat of the season to Ballinrobe, edging out their visitors 13-10.

Dunmore and Galwegians also picked up vital wins.

Dunmore defeated Claremorris 41-0 in a one-sided local derby, while Galwegians secured an away win over Buccaneers in Dubarry Park.
