Connacht coach Andy Friend has praised Kieran Marmion for the way he's dealing with his World Cup omission, with the scrum-half running in two tries after coming off the bench in Saturday's 40-31 friendly win against Munster.

Friend had called on those disappointed not to make the plane to Japan - Finlay Bealham, Ultan Dillane and Quinn Roux were also in contention - to react in a positive manner.

"I thought Kieran was great," said Friend. "I thought Finlay was very good, same with Ultan and Quinn and a chunk of blokes who played really well."

Caolin Blade also got two touchdowns as Connacht won the Sportsground clash.

Munster coach Johann van Graan is pleased with their pre-season, with the introduction of Jonathan Wren and Alan Tynan off the bench making it eight debutants in two weeks.

"That was the aim of the pre-season, to give the academy players their senior debuts," said van Graan. "They are our future and in that regard it was a very successful two weeks.
