Event marks work behind scenes
Connacht Rugby recognised the contribution of volunteers to rugby at a social event in the Heineken Clubhouse at the Sportsground on Wednesday evening.
More than 130 members of Connacht's 27 rugby clubs joined professional players, matchday volunteers from the Sportsground and committee members from the organisation for an evening of entertainment which included live music, a magician and a guest appearance from Eddie the Eagle.
CEO Willie Ruane addressed the gathering, thanking the volunteers for their extensive efforts and acknowledging the positive impact they have not only in their own clubs, but in their wider local communities.
Speaking about the event, club support manager Luke Murphy said:
"We're delighted with the event, it's been a great social evening and a wonderful opportunity for us here in Connacht Rugby to acknowledge the hard work that goes on at all levels of the organisation. The entire sport of rugby is built on the incredible work of volunteers and it is a privilege to be able to recognise their contribution at an event like tonight's."
