The replay of the J2 League final between Connemara & Galway Corinthians was played at the Sportsground in wet & windy conditions on Sunday.

The sides had drawn 11-11 after extra-time back in April.

The first half was a scrappy affair as both sides struggled to deal with the inclement weather and the opposition's physical defence.

However, Corinthians did manage a well-worked try just before half-time to give them a 5-0 lead.

The weather abated early in the second half, and Connemara began to dominate, forcing a penalty to reduce the deficit.

Connemara continued to pressure the Corinthians defence with a physical and high intensity style which yielded another penalty which drifted just wide.

Corinthians came back into the game and enjoyed a sustained period of possession creating trouble for the Connemara defence.

They could have put the tie to bed with 10 minutes remaining as they failed to convert a two on one opportunity with the line beckoning; a penalty was their only reward

They would regret that missed chance as Connemara gained a territorial foothold before unleashing a multi-phase attack which resulted in a try under the posts.

The conversion gave Connemara a 10-8 lead which they held onto in the last few minutes to secure the title.
