Buccs looking for revenge in crunch derby showdown
Tony Dolan takes his Buccaneers side to Crowley Park tonight looking to avenge their Round 4 defeat to Galwegians in Ulster Bank League Division 1B (7.30).
Thirteen points separate these two Connacht sides in the standings with 'Wegians on top and Buccs fifth. Galwegians won 29-25 when these sides last met at Dubarry Park in October.
That was one of the games of the season and had all the spice of a provincial derby.
Five minutes before half-time Buccs had a 22-0 lead but incredibly couldn't hold on and were pipped at the death when Colin Conroy raced clear to touch down for the 14 men of Galwegians.
That loss hurt Buccaneers and they have never got back on track in the promotion race, but a win against the league leaders would be a perfect tonic after the break.
Galwegians are now just one point clear of Garryowen and four ahead of in-form Trinity so they cannot afford a slip-up here.
They had led the league by seven points but shock defeats to Shannon and Trinity dragged them right back into the chasing pack.
Corinthians are bottom of the standings as they head to a meeting with Shannon. Their promotion chances are surely gone and with eight losses from 12 games they need to worry about relegation.
In 2B, Sligo host Navan RFC at Hamilton Park tomorrow.
Sligo fell to ninth in the table after they lost 40-17 away to Boyne last weekend.
