Clermont send out warning with rout

European Watch

John Fallon

The sheer power which Clermont Auvergne can unleash on a team was all too apparent last time out when they ran in seven tries on Stade Francais on their way to a 51-9 victory.

Peceli Yato, Fritz Lee and Napolioni Nalaga all got two tries apiece as Clermont turned the screw in their fortress Stade Marcel Michelin.

The Top 14 is this weekend in the second week of a break and Clermont face a daunting trip to Toulon next week before they come to Thomond Park a week later for their eagerly awaited clash with Munster in the Champions Cup.

English rivals Saracens and Sale Sharks will battle it out in the back-to-back games in December. They have only played one Premiership match since the Champions Cup opening two rounds, with two weekends of LV=Cup also taking place.

Saracens drew 21-21 with Leicester in the Premiership and are at home to champions Northampton Saints on Sunday.

They have notched two victories in the LV=Cup, beating Harlequins 25-20 at home and winning 21-9 away to Ospreys.

Sale Sharks beat London Irish 36-8 last time out in the league and had mixed results in the LV=Cup, winning 32-29 against Wasps and going down 29-13 to Leicester.

They are away to Harlequins this evening when they will be looking for their fourth win in eight league outings in this campaign.
