THE IRFU believe they have found the "right person" in new head of fitness Dave Clark, whose brief is to oversee all aspects of fitness, strength and conditioning with the national team and the provinces, WRITES HUGH FARRELLY.

The South African has been working with rugby teams since 1992 at Western Province and held positions with South Africa and Wales before becoming head of fitness at Scotland's Institute of Sport in 2001.

Clark, who succeeds Philip Morrow, will be working with several athletes at the London Olympics before taking up his new role with the IRFU in September.

"The strength and conditioning role is incredibly important and it was important that we took time to find the right person with the balance of experience and scientific background to drive on the fitness structures within the elite performance pathways," said IRFU director of rugby Eddie Wigglesworth.
