The Bull Hayes needs lesson in horse power from John

THE Bull Hayes was not a happy camper on Sunday. And, with a name that conjures up images of gritty defiance, his fans were frustrated to see him throw in the towel far too early.

Before Munster followers engage in outraged defence of their veteran front-row and bona fide "ligind", The Bull Hayes we are referring to is the four-year-old gelded son of Sadler's Wells which is named after the 37-year-old prop.

Trained by Jessica Harrington and owned by John Wholey, the equine 'Bull' was strongly fancied to win division one of the maiden hurdle at Cork on Sunday, and was backed accordingly.

But, having taken up the lead at halfway, the 9/4 second favourite folded tamely in the straight and trailed home a well-beaten sixth. Maybe it's time for the real 'Bull' to take him to his farm in Cappamore and give him a few lessons in putting it all in when it matters most.
