Connacht coach Eric Elwood is confident that his big summer signing Dan Parks will be fit for the start of the province's second Heineken Cup campaign next month.

The former Scotland international has not been able to play for Connacht because of a calf injury and will miss this weekend's Pro12 visit to Glasgow.

"We are taking Dan week-on-week," he said. "Part of his rehab is to get some conditioning work under his belt.

"This is a very important week for Dan and some of those injured guys, because if we can get some of those conditioning hits into them this week, then they can put their hands up for selection next week. Hopefully they can get through the workload."

Parks -- the record points scorer in the Pro12 with 1,341 -- could be back for the visit of Leinster tomorrow week, but Elwood is anxious not to push him.

"We brought in lads last week and they performed. It is a long season," he said.
