Hanrahan a doubt
JJ Hanrahan is a major doubt for Sunday week's Heineken Cup semi-final against Toulon after a groin injury forced his premature exit from Munster's loss to Glasgow Warriors.
BJ Botha, who limped off after playing on for some minutes as a replacement, did not suffer any lasting damage. He is unlikely to be risked this week. "All groins are serious, how serious I don't know," was Rob Penney's initial reaction to Hanrahan's discomfort after Glasgow's first win here in six years undermined Munster's chances of clinching a home semi-final.
"We will have to wait until Monday until the scan comes through, but they're always challenging, groins. I've never known a miracle groin repair to happen.
"You could see that he was labouring, so we just took him off. BJ came off with an injury but give him 10 days or so and he will be fine."
Penney remains optimistic that Donnacha Ryan could still force his way into contention for the Heineken Cup semi-final and the Tipperary man may not necessarily need a run-out in Connacht this week.
"He's making progress," said Penney of the utility forward who has been struggling with a complicated foot issue.
"I wouldn't like to put a timeline on it because it's the nature of the injury. He's still making progress.
"We would be very hopeful that he will be right. It's a wee bit unique as I said at the start so we just don't want to get hopes up or push the issue too hard at the moment."
