LUKE FITZGERALD is unlikely to be fit in time for Leinster's Heineken Cup clash with Montpellier tomorrow after failing to recover from his neck injury, writes Ruaidhri O'Connor.
It is more bad news for the winger, who has been out since Christmas and was omitted from the 24-man Ireland squad on Wednesday.
"I don't think Luke will be available, unfortunately," said Leinster coach Joe Schmidt.
"It is really disappointing for Luke. He's disappointed that he's injured and hasn't quite been able to drive the nail home as far as really pinning himself up there as a potential Irish international for the Six Nations."
Fitzgerald is one of three players who will undergo a fitness test this morning, along with Jonathan Sexton and Kevin McLaughlin, before Schmidt names his team.
Schmidt is hopeful that Sexton will be able to take his place after he responded well to treatment on a foot injury.
If he does not make it, Schmidt says he has "massive faith" in Ian Madigan to step in.
