Fitness boost for Connacht

Connacht have received a timely boost ahead of Saturday's clash with Munster with promising centre Eoin Griffin and veteran lock Michael Swift returning from injury.

But it has been confirmed that flanker Willie Faloon will be out for at least eight weeks after undergoing surgery for a fractured eye socket.

Swift trained with the squad in Galway yesterday and coach Eric Elwood is confident the 35-year-old will be available for the clash at the Sportsground.

Elwood said Griffin would be tested in training today and that would decide whether he would make this weekend's game or wait for the trip to play Leinster the following Saturday.

Griffin has been out of action since the Heineken Cup game against Harlequins in October but is now almost fully recovered from an ankle operation.

The 22-year-old has played just seven games this season, but Elwood is hopeful he will be available for this weekend.

"We just need to see how he goes in training.

"But it is great to have him and a few of the others back as we were badly hit by injuries," he said.

George Naoupu and prop Nathan White returned to action at the weekend, while Elwood is confident that centre Danie Poolman will be fully recovered from a heavy knock he took in the 17-0 loss at Biarritz.
