Donncha O'Callaghan has been ruled out of Munster's trip to France for Saturday's Heineken Cup semi-final.
The second-row has succumbed to the grade two knee ligament tear sustained in the Pro12 loss to Leinster 10 days ago. He has been undergoing sustained treatment in an effort to make the game.
He was unable to take any part in collective training in Cork yesterday and will play no part in Saturday's game.
His place on the bench for the game against Clermont Auvergne is likely to be taken by either Billy Holland or Ian Nagle.
The French side have their own injury worries.
Team captain Aurelien Rougerie limped out of their win over Toulouse at the weekend with a hamstring injury and it is unknown if he will be fit in time, while out-half Brock James is also recovering from injury.
