Cavan clinch Moran Trophy

The 2014 Joe Moran U-11s Festival of Rugby took place in Naas RFC recently.

There were teams from all four provinces in attendance, with the trophy awarded to County Cavan RFC for their wonderful display of sportsmanship and respect.

The event is a festival of rugby, not a competition and the trophy is awarded to the team that demons-trated sportsmanship, a great attitude to opponents, referees and coaches and good behaviour.

County Cavan RFC prevailed, but an honourable mention goes to Clonmel RFC, who were awarded the Joe Moran Plate for their performance.

Naas fielded four teams and all the boys enjoyed themselves playing against teams outside their normal North Kildare and Metro leagues, which ties in with the original intention for the festival – to allow teams compete with the best from around the country.

Members of the Naas U-19s and coaches from U-12, U-8 and U-9 were on hand to referee the matches. Tesco Extra and The Monread Centre in Naas were main sponsors of the event.
