Blues boss Schmidt in Sevens heaven
LEINSTER coach Joe Schmidt, one of the most enlightened thinkers involved in the sport, has given the IRFU food for thought with regard to their, as yet, snail's pace progression of Sevens rugby.
"It's the same game effectively," says Schmidt. "The timing of your run, the pass and the ability to see space and play to it are all the same."
Schmidt was speaking at the launch of the Leinster-based Umbrella U-17 Sevens Tournament at Terenure College, where his son Tim is currently featuring in their Senior Cup run.
"I love the idea of young people in Ireland helping to raise money for needy children over the other side of the world, while getting to enjoy a day of playing one of the most exciting brands of rugby.
"It's an event that everyone benefits from."
The tournament takes place on March 24 in Terenure College, Dublin, details at www.umbrella7s.ie
