An Australian youth rugby player has been banned from the sport for 15 years after a mass brawl broke out following an U17 Grand Final.

The youngster was playing rugby league for Beacon Hill Bears against Avalon last Sunday when a huge fight broke out at the final whistle.

An Avalon player was reportedly kicked in the head as he received treatment from medical staff, according to the Australian Telegraph.

The paper is also reporting that in addition to the 15-year ban handed down to one player, two team-mates received bans of eight and seven years respectively.

One witness branded the scenes as 'just thuggery'.

“Incidents like these need to be eradicated from our game,” CEO of the NSW Rugby League Dave Trodden said in quotes reported by the paper.

“Junior sport is to be enjoyed by its young participants, not spoilt by inappropriate behaviour

“If there is even just one incident of this type, then it is one too many.
