WATCH: The touching moment when Thomas Barr met his parents for the first time after his Olympic heroics Newsdesk Newsdesk

He didn't come away with a medal but the performance of Thomas Barr in yesterday's 400m hurdles final was still sensational.

Barr ran a personal best of 47.97 seconds to claim fourth, but the time would have been good enough to claim a medal at the previous three Olympics games.

Barr's sister Jessie, who competes at the 400m distance, was in the RTE studio for the race and was visibly emotional as she spoke of her brother's achievement.

Thanks to this brilliant video from Athletics Ireland, we can now see the reaction of the Waterford man's parents.

While being interviewed after his brilliant performance, Barr is swamped by his mother and father in a truly touching embrace.
