Paddy Barnes finds a way to look on the bright side with hilarious tweet to Rory McIlroy
Two-time Olympic bronze medallist Paddy Barnes will be hurting this morning following his shock exit from the Rio Olympics but has managed to maintain his sense of humour.
The 29-year-old looked a shadow of his usual self as he lost to 20-year-old Spaniard Samuel Carmona Heredia on a split decision.
The Belfast light flyweight, who looked jaded from his weight cut to 49kg, was looking to medal in a third straight Olympics. A feat never achieved by an Irish Olympian.
Barnes was criticised from many quarters on social media for some of his antics on Twitter this week. Getting selfies with top sport stars and poking fun at Rory McIlroy's absence from the games.
McIlroy wished Irish boxers Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan luck ahead of their Olympic openers on Sunday, a day after the former cheekily took a snap alongside the golfer's former fiancee Caroline Wozniacki and asked whether he thought they make a "great couple".
Following his defeat yesterday, Barnes has tweeted McIlroy once more and he's not nearly as cheeky this time.
