IOC review panel clears 271 Russian athletes to compete at Rio Games
The International Olympic Committee's review panel has announced that 271 Russian athletes are eligible to compete at the Rio Games.
Confusion had surrounded the exact number of participants following the release of Richard McLaren's explosive report into Russia's state-run doping programme last month.
The Russian Olympic Committee had submitted an original entry list of 389 athletes but that has been significantly reduced by 118 after international federations were asked, by the IOC, to individually assess the anti-doping record of each Russian athlete.
The IOC said in a statement: "271 athletes will form the team entered by the Russian National Olympic Committee (ROC) from the original entry list of 389 athletes."
