Former Ireland boxing coach Billy Walsh secures first Olympic medal with US Team
Billy Walsh secured his first Olympic medal with the US boxing team tonight following Nico Hernandez's light-flyweight quarter-final victory over Ecuador’s Carlos Quipo Pilataxi.
Hernandez will now advance to the semi-finals and is guaranteed at least a bronze medal at the Rio Games.
The win means the former Irish coach has already helped the USA improve their lot on London 2012 where they failed to obtain a single boxing medal.
Walsh joined with the American team last year following his controversial departure from Irish boxing.
