The Republic of Ireland were beaten 3-1 by Serbia in their final European Under-21 Championship qualifier in Waterford.

Noel King's side, who were already out of contention for the finals, were unable to hold on at the Regional Sports Centre after taking a 49th-minute lead through Everton's Courtney Duffus.

Republic goalkeeper Liam Bossin kept out a 62nd-minute penalty from Uros Djurdjevic but could not prevent substitute Nemanja Mihajlovic equalising two minutes later.

Mijat Gacinovic gave the visitors the lead after 67 minutes and Sasa Lukic wrapped up victory two minutes from time.
