Railway still blazing trail for girls' rugby

In 2013 Railway Union RFC launched their highly successful girls' schools Sevens programme. Now in conjunction with the Domestic Branch of Leinster Rugby they are starting up Junior and Senior Championships for girls.

The inaugural Bank of Ireland Leinster Schoolgirls Sevens Junior and Senior Cup competitions will take place on Friday, April 24.

Almost 200 schoolgirls from across the province will compete for the initial title at Junior and Senior at Donnybrook Stadium.

The aim is to encourage as many girls new to the sport in clubs and in schools.

Meanwhile, after Garbally pipped Summerhill College by the odd point in 37 in a thrilling Connacht Schools Senior Cup final, with typical modesty former Connacht and Ireland No 8 Noel Mannion wants it to be known, that despite reports to the contrary, it is Kevin Tierney and Mick Devine who are head coach and backs coach respectively.
