PSG to seal £50m deal for David Luiz in the next 48 hours - reports
David Luiz could be the world's most expensive defender within the next 48 hours, with Paris-Saint Germain reportedly close to sealing a £50m deal for the Chelsea player.
The fee for the 27-year-old would surpass the previous highest deal for a defender, which was £35m for Luiz's fellow Brazilian Thiago Silva from Milan in 2011.
According to the Daily Mail, once a fee is agreed, PSG will seek approval from Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari to fly to their World Cup base to carry out a medical.
PSG reportedly had to strike fast to secure the deal, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich also interested in the defender, who joined Chelsea from Benfica for £20m in 2007.
The £50m fee will assist Chelsea in their £32m pursuit for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, who they are reportedly on the brink of signing after Atletico take on local rivals Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday.
Luiz's Brazil begin their home World Cup campaign against Croatia on 12 June, before taking on Mexico and Cameroon in Group A.
