Proper misses out on final place

Ireland's Kelly Proper missed out on a place in the 200 metres final at the European Championships despite recording a personal-best time in Zurich.

Having qualified earlier in the day, Proper clocked 23.15 seconds to finish the opening semi-final in fifth place at the Stadion Letzigrund.

Christine McMahon, meanwhile, finished eighth in the second semi-final of the 400m hurdles in a time of 57.31.

Laura Reynolds was forced to pull out of the 20km race walk after 12km, suffering cramps and breathing difficulties related to asthma.
