Willyjoe sets scorching pace

Conor Fahy's Tyrur Willyjoe set a strong pace in the opening round of the College Causeway/Killahan Phanter Easter Cup at Shelbourne on Saturday night.

Flying from the outside box, he set a mighty gallop and cruised home a five-length winner from Loughteen Blanco in 29.64. Derby winner Razldazl George qualified in fourth after a slow start left him struggling throughout.

But Tyrur had just a spot in hand of the Owen McKenna-trained Airforce Frankie, which also broke fast in Heat 4 and led all the way for a two-and-a-half-length margin over Broadstrand Lad in 29.65.

Another established star to prevail in the heats was Seamus Whelan's recent SIS Live Gold Cup hero Piercestown Sand, as he led all the way in Heat 3.

He was challenged throughout by Uncle Eoin but had three parts of a length in hand at the line in 29.80.

Down at Curraheen Park, the final of the Kudos Supersprint was won by the Pat Guilfoyle-trained Shoemakers Lad. He just led up the bend from Cashen Malouda and Cambushmore but went clear around the first two bends and won by a length and a half in 17.66.

The semi-finals of the Gain Feeds Irish Cesarewitch were run at Mullingar and Helen Whelan's Dynamic Trend posted the fastest time of the competition, running out a four-length winner from Incitatus in 33.15.

The other semi saw Paul Hennessy's Barefoot Machine lead all the way for a half-length victory over Subway Ruth in 33.45. The final will be run next Saturday.
