TENNIS champ Maria Sharapova beat Caroline Wozniacki in New York last night, but she lost the one point she played against the world’s No 1 golfer Rory McIlroy.

When Wozniacki was just a game away from losing 6-3, 6-4 to Sharapova in the exhibition game, she asked: “Any hot guys in here want to play?”

Rory, in the audience put both hands in the air and she invited her boyfriend onto the court.

In jeans and a striped sweat shirt, McIlroy displayed a one-handed backhand, and Sharapova hit his lob wide.

Asked if he was surprised to win the point, McIlroy said with a smile: "I've won a few off Caroline."

The Northern Irish man’s show was to the delight of the fans, just one day after he won the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida to clinch No 1.

Commentators on the game praised him as “a good sport”.

"He wasn't too pleased with me," Wozniacki admitted later.

Wozniacki, currently ranked No 4, has been ranked No. 1 for 67 weeks.

Posing for pictures for fans after the match BNP Paribas Showdown in Madison Square Garden, McIlroy said, "It's nice to take a little break from golf."

The couple are taking a break in Miami before he plays a World Golf Championship event there and she heads to Indian Wells, California.

McIlroy stopped signing autographs for a moment to listen to Wozniacki's on-court interview. "He's 100 percent against Maria," she told the crowd.

Asked earlier Monday whether she sent him flowers after his win Sunday, Wozniacki said, "Well, I don't want his head to become too big, so, um, no."

Caroline Wozniacki later tweeted: “Had great fun playing the exhibition with Sharapova in Madison Square Garden.. Even got @mcilroyrory on court and win a point Haha..”
