A LIMERICK teenager has made it into ESPN’s top 10 plays in the US for an extraordinary goal in a field hockey match.

19-year-old Rebecca Barry from Limerick was playing for the Richmond Spiders against rivals Temple when she glided her way past several opponents before planting the ball in the back at the net at an extremely difficult angle.

Footage of her goal was listed at number 5 in ESPN’s ‘top 10 plays’ – which chart the most skilled sports moments of the week. Barry’s team went on to win the match 4-1.

She was the captain of the Irish under 18s team which came fourth at the European hockey championships in the Netherlands.
