Former World No 1 Caroline Wozniacki, who has never made it past the fourth round, yesterday battled past unseeded Russian Veronika Kudermetova.

Wozniacki, seeded 14, needed a tie-break in the first set but then went on to win 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.

Karolina Pliskova found Centre Court to her liking as she demolished Monica Puig to reach the third round.

The third-seed Czech took just one hour to wrap up a 6-0 6-4 victory over Puerto Rican Puig. Pliskova was taken to a second-set tie-break in her opening-day win over world No 101 Zhu Lin on Court Two, but she felt more at home in the showpiece court.

Another former World No 1 Victoria Azarenka swept aside Ajla Tomljanovic.

Cori Gauff, the 15-year-old sensation who defeated Venus Williams, continued her stunning progress by beating former semi-finalist Magdalena Rybarikova. Playing under the lights of Court One, the American put in another nerveless display to win 6-3 6-3.
