Tennis star Damir Dzumhur was full of remorse as he crashed into a ball kid at the French Open in Paris, with his compassionate reaction earning him a warm ovation from spectators on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

Dzumhur was involved in an intense battle with world No.2 Alexander Zverev when his unfortunate collision occurred, as he tried to catch a stray ball that has travelled high into the Paris sky.

Unfortunately, the ball kid has the same plan and ran onto the court into the path of a stunned Dzumhur, who was quick to hug the youngster who was lying on the floor below him.

No serious damage appeared to be done to the youngster, with Dzumhur assuring the umpire he did not see the youngster in his path.

Dzumhur went on to lose the game in five sets against Zverev, who marches on to the fourth round in the second Grand Slam event of the tennis season.
