Third seed Pliskova suffers shock defeat
Karolina Pliskova suffered a shock second-round loss to Magdalena Rybarikova to blow the women's tournament wide open.
The third seed looked to be cruising at a set and a break up but switched off and was unable to turn things back in her favour and went down 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Rybarikova missed the second half of 2016 after undergoing knee and wrist surgery but has climbed back into the top 100 and went into the match with a 14-1 record on grass this season.
Bethanie Mattek-Sands was rushed to hospital after suffering a serious knee injury in her second-round match against Sorana Cirstea.
The American's right leg appeared to give way as she attempted to play a shot from the centre of the court during the 13th minute of the third set.
After more than 20 minutes of on-court treatment, the 32-year-old was carried off Court 17 on a stretcher and wheeled down to a waiting ambulance by Gate Four.
In obvious distress, Mattek-Sands screamed out "Help me" as she lay on the turf in front of horrified spectators and she could be heard crying even after the medical support had arrived.
Cirstea, still clearly shaken by the incident an hour-and-a-half later, said she had never seen an injury like it.
