Nadal makes it sweet 16 with US open title
Rafael Nadal made it sweet 16 in Grand Slam titles last night after powering to a straight-sets victory over rank outsider Kevin Anderson in the US Open final at Flushing Meadows. The Spaniard made light work of the world number 32, closing out the final 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in less than two and 25 minutes.
Nadal broke the South African in the seventh game of the first set and never looked back.
It was always going to be a tall order for the six foot eight inch veteran, who was appearing in his first Grand Slam final and he struggled to get to grips with Nadal's devastating brand of all-court tennis. Nadal didn't offer up a break point to his rival in the entire game.
The Spaniard's third US Open title sees him move within three of his great rival Roger Federer and completes a year of domination for the game's big two, the 31-year-old adding the US Open title to his French crown - while Federer holds the Wimbledon and Australian Open titles.
