tallaght venture deserves support

Next Sunday will be a big occasion for the members of Tallaght AC when they welcome runners to their inaugural 5-mile Road Race, which starts at 10.30 on Greenhills Road.

This is a new venture by one of the most progressive clubs in the country and an event that is deserving of support.

The race takes place over a 2.5-mile loop and there is an attractive prize fund of €2,000 on offer. Registration is at the impressive Tallaght AC clubhouse from 9.0 on Sunday morning.

entry fee is great value at €15 and there are souvenir T-shirts for all finishers -- as well as post-race refreshments in the clubhouse.

It is well worth the trip to Tallaght just to see the club's excellent premises and their new synthetic running track.

With a membership of well over 200 -- a big number of them young athletes -- Tallaght AC is thriving and is the result of many years of dedicated work by an enterprising management committee.

The club has a number of high-achieving senior athletes including Sean Connolly, who runs in the National Lottery Dublin Marathon later this month, Thomas Fitzpatrick and Anthony Lieghio.

This new road race is expected to be an annual fixture and is a very welcome event in the Tallaght area.
