Coyne shows class to claim silver medal
There was unconfined joy for the Irish team at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires last night when Dublin swimmer Niamh Coyne claimed a silver medal.
It was a marvellous achievement by the Tallaght youngster as she got into a smooth rhythm in the women's 100m breaststroke and battled on bravely to finish runner-up, recording a time of 1:08.90.
Indeed, Ireland came within inches of taking a second medal in the event as Mona McSharry finished fourth in a time of 1:08.97. The Sligo starlet got off to a flying start and was first to turn at halfway, but unfortunately she was run out of a podium position in the dying metres.
