Swimming: McMahon lights up Lisburn with five-gold haul

Fresh from her bronze medal-winning display at the European short course championships, Sycerika McMahon has picked up five golds at the Irish short course championships in Lisburn, Co Antrim.

The 17-year-old Olympian demonstrated her strength in every stroke when she won gold in the women's 200m individual medley, 800m freestyle, 100m breast- stroke, 100m freestyle and 200m butterfly.

McMahon stormed home in the 200m IM to win in a new Irish senior record of 2:12.35, ahead of fellow Northerner Bethany Carson (2:14.06) and Shani Stallard (2:18.17).

Stallard picked up silver in the 100m breaststroke in 1:10.43, behind McMahon (1:08.30).

McMahon took gold in the 800m free in 8:50.86, five seconds clear of the field, while her quintet of gold medals was completed with 56.07 for the 100m free and 2:13.71 for the 200m butterfly.
