Staff Relay a huge hit

The inaugural Dublin Staff Relay, which took place last Thursday in the Phoenix Park, attracted teams from almost 200 companies.

The 5 x 5km relay saw spirited performances from many company teams who were experiencing this type of event for the first time.

The AVIVA teams were out in force on the night and secured two of the top three spots, with Mason Hayes Curran legal firm taking second place. Topaz Energy won the Best Boss novelty prize, Best Dressed Award went to Ciaran Nevin Hair Salon and Best Team Spirit Award was picked up by Caceis Investor Services.

This is an event with great potential and, with just a little tweaking, it can attract even bigger team entries in the years ahead.

Alan O'Brien of Crusaders AC was a clear winner of last Saturday's Donore Harriers 5km road race in the Phoenix Park. O'Brien finished in 15.17, ahead of Vinny Mulvey of Raheny Shamrock AC (15.22) and Paul Fleming of Rathfarnam/WSAF (15.51).

Catriona Jennings of Sportsworld AC won the women's race in 17.06 from Raheny Shamrock's Elish Kelly (17.24) and DSD's Fiona Clinton, who clocked 17.30.

Patrick Cassidy (Glasgiven Contracts) was in sparkling form on Tuesday night in Dunboyne, where he led home an entry of well over 400 in the BHAA Government Services 5-Mile Road Race.

Cassidy finished in 25.08, ahead of Bank of Ireland's Eoin Flynn (25.14) and Luke Forde (25.46). Lucy D'Arcy (Factron Electronics) won the women's race in 30.57 from Pfizer's Edel Madigan (31.02) and Stephanie Bergin of AIB (31.10).
