Simmons sticks with 'magnificent' sqaud
PHIL SIMMONS resisted the temptation to blood new players when he named a squad of 13 for next month's RSA One Day International Series against Sri Lanka at Clontarf.
Despite an early exit at the recent ICC World T20 finals, coach Simmons and his fellow selectors have gone for the tried and trusted, with all 13 players named featuring in the Bangladesh tournament.
"The guys have been magnificent over the past few years and we've turned in some fantastic performances against Test match sides in recent times," Simmons said.
"But it's a reality that we still haven't recorded a major victory here in Dublin – although we seem to be getting closer every year. What better way to break that duck than with a win over reigning world T20 champions?"
Simmons has been encouraged by the early-season form of his seven English county-based players, with skipper William Porterfield and Ed Joyce in the runs and both Tim Murtagh and George Dockrell taking wickets.
