This is the horrific moment Formula One driver, Jules Bianchi, crashed at the Japanese Grand Prix.

In the clip, the 25-year-old Marussia driver collides with a recovery vehicle after German Adrian Sutil had skidded into a wall on lap 43 at Suzuka.

The Marussia driver underwent surgery after suffering a severe head injury, the FIA said at the time.

He was attended to by a medical team on the track and then taken to Mie University Hospital by ambulance less than 10 miles away from the Suzuka circuit.

It was not possible to take the driver by helicopter because of torrential rain.
