Sean McComb's victory in his last 16 bout was the highlight of a mixed day for the Irish at the European Games in Baku.

The Irish lightweight was much too strong for Italy's  Donato Cosenza with all three judges scoring the contest 30-27, 30-27 and 30-27 for a unanimous victory.

The Irish elite champion completely outclassed his opponent and is just one victory away from a podium place.

There was disappointment for Michaela Walsh who lost to Russia’s Elena Saveleva.

The five-time Irish champion was beaten on a unanimous points decision.

Myles Casey also exited the competition following his defeat in the flyweight division against home favourite Elvin Mamishzada.

Adam Nolan and Dean Gardiner are in the ring later this evening.

In Gymnastics, Irishman Kieran Behan just missed out on a medal as he finished fourth in the men’s floor gymnastics after finishing with a score of 14.866.

In cycling, Caroline Ryan failed to finish in this morning’s gruelling women’s road race.
