Sailing: Lynch closing in on podium finish

Finn Lynch is poised to take the podium for Ireland at the Four Star Pizza Youth World Championships in Dun Laoghaire with just one race remaining this afternoon.

The Blessington sailor scored two top-10 results in the Laser Radial boys fleet and is in third place, one point ahead of Herman Tomasgaard of Norway.

World champions Rupert White and Tom Britz from Britain won the SL16 catamaran class thanks to two race victories yesterday, while Spain's Carlos Robles and Florian Trittel took the gold in the 29er Skiff class thanks to six wins out of 11 races to date.

Sean and Tadgh Donnelly were caught up in a string of capsized boats on the starting line of their first race in the 29er Skiff class yesterday.

The pair trailed at the back of the fleet for the first lap but steadily gained ground to finish 18th out of 24 boats. They finished eighth in their second race and are now in 10th place overall.
