Pretorius seals title for Hills
In the end, The Hills did not need Max Sorensen as they clinched the RSA Division 1 title with a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Phoenix.
From the moment Joe Clinton took the first Phoenix wicket in the second over, the result was never in doubt. Only the third-wicket stand lasted longer than eight overs, and the eighth-wicket partnership of 43 was almost twice as many as the next best.
Tomas Murphy took four wickets and Luke Clinton took two as Phoenix were dismissed for 159.
The Hills lost Mike Baumgart and Daryl Calder early but a third-wicket stand of 109 between Cormac McLoughlin and Nick Pretorius in just 18 overs, dominated by the latter who scored 72 in 56 balls with 14 fours, hurried them to their target, which they reached in the 30th over.
Second-placed Merrion did what they had to do, and beat North County but the result from Phoenix Park kept the Ballsbridge side in the runners-up spot, 11 points behind.
YMCA finished third despite losing their final game to Pembroke, who claimed fourth after a rain-affected 30-run victory at Claremont Road, while Railway Union and Leinster was the only match which did not start.
