Power failure as World bid ends in upset

Darts

Dave Chisnall kept his cool to cause a massive upset and knock multiple winner Phil Taylor out of the World Championship with a commanding performance at the Alexandra Palace.

Chisnall won the second-round clash in one of the biggest shocks in the sport.

Taylor, who has won the PDC title 13 times and two BDO world championships, was brushed aside four sets to one.

Both players missed important throws but Chisnall kept his head to win the fifth set with double six after Taylor had missed two shots at double 20.

Chisnall gave a glimpse of what was to come when he took the first set but Taylor hit straight back to win the next. The next two sets went to Chisnall to set up the chance to cause a huge upset.

After taking the opening leg of the fifth set, Chisnall was pegged back but won the next two legs to win the set 3-1 and dump out Taylor.
