Pixie weaves oaks magic
The punters took a hammering when the quarter-finals of the Irish Oaks were run at Shelbourne on Saturday night.
Graham Holland's Cabra Millie was the only one of the four market leaders to oblige and two even failed to qualify for next week's semi-finals.
Cabra Millie was thoroughly impressive in winning the last heat as she went past her kennel companion Rockburst Delta at halfway and won by two lengths from that rival in a best-of-the-round 28.34.
Long-odds favourite Borna Gem failed to survive the opening heat where she was repeatedly denied a run and Padraig Hickey's Millbank Lola was a 7/1 winner as she led all the way for a two-length margin over Ilikeyou in 28.42.
Rios Girl looked set for a 10/1 success in the second heat until checking badly on the third bend and this allowed John O'Flynn's Milldean Tally to grab a head victory in 28.58.
The other heat saw Kevin Losty's Glenwood Pixie lead all for a length-and-a-half victory over College Maybe in 28.69.
Fastest qualifier in the Northern Irish Derby at Drumbo Park was Ronnie Craven's Lolos Joe as he led home Ruthless Man in 30.01. The other heat winners were Whiterock in 30.02, Star Head 30.31 and Devilacare 30.16.
There was a major shock at Curraheen Park where the final of the Barry's Tea 750 was won by the 7/1 rank outsider Stallone Bart, a dog trained in Limerick by Bridie Moore for Oola owners Dave and Jack Bourke. He led all the way and won by three and a half lengths from Dream Winner in 41.93.
