The long trek to Georgia proved worthwhile for Three Rock Rovers as they won the EuroHockey Indoor Club Challenge II and promotion for Ireland, with six wins from six.

Promotion was secured yesterday with victory over Lithuanian side Klevas 4-2 with a couple of goals for Ross Canning, the tournament's leading scorer.

Then Rovers celebrated in merciless style as they completed their programme with a 23-2 annihilation of Bulgaria's Lokamotiv. Once more Canning was to the fore as he added six to bring his tally for the three days to 16.

He was matched in this game by German import Richard Pautz, who also bagged half a dozen.

Meanwhile, the leaders in the EY Hockey Leagues maintained their form despite playing away from home.

Glenanne beat Cookstown 5-1, with a brace for Shannon Boucher, and the women of UCD dispatched Belfast Harlequins 5-0 at Deraghmore Park, where Deirdre Duke also bagged two.
