WORLD boxing champion Katie Taylor will be Ireland's flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, it has been announced.

Katie will carry the Tricolour in front of Team Ireland at the glitzy ceremony on Friday and millions of people around the world.



Some 66 Irish athletes will be competing in the Olympics.



The Irish Olympic boxing squad were to arrive in London this afternoon after winding-up their final training camp in Assisi, Italy yesterday.



The Irish squad were training and sparring with Italy, Azerbaijan and a team from the Ukraine in Assisi ahead of London 2012.



Katie was not among the squad as it is understood she was instead training in Ireland.
