Northern Ireland teenager is picked as Olympic torch bearer at opening ceremony

ULSTER teenager Katie KIrk was one of seven young athletes who carried the Olympic torch in last night's spectacular opening ceremony.

The 400m runner was nominated by Dame Mary Peter' s who also took part in the finale. The selected teenagers were chosen to represent Britain's hopes for the next Olympics and beyond.

Kirk was one of a peleton of young athletes who received the flame from Steve Redgrave and carried it to the giant bell.
