McMahon out in 100m breastroke
DOWN teenage swim star Sycerika McMahon was particularly disappointed to crash out of the 100 breastroke heats today.
There were high hopes for McMahon, who won European senior silver this year when she was just 16.
But a terrible turn cost her badly this morning and she finished last in her heat in 1:08.80, well outside her 1:08.80 personal best, and 26th overall of a 48-woman field.
McMahon's heat was admittedly a blistering one, won by 15-year-old Lithuanian Ruta Meilutyte in 1:05.56 which was not only the fastest time in the world this year but the eighth fastest time in Olympic history and just .4 off the Olympic record of 1:05.17 set by Australia's Leisel Jones in Beijing. Jones was also in McMahon's heat and finished second in 1:06.98.
