Olympics: Magee set for London

Ireland's top badminton players are expected to officially secure their London places within the next 24 hours.

Donegal's Chloe Magee has finished third on the final European rankings, which guarantees her place the first round of Olympic places are allocated tomorrow.

And Denmark-based Dubliner Scott Evans, who finished sixth in the European rankings and also competed in the Beijing Olympics, is also expected to make it as Europe's first reserve.

Magee and her brother Sam still have an outside shot of qualifying for the mixed doubles, but will have to wait until a future round of allocations to see if they've made it.

Elsewhere, Irish sailing, which has already qualified three crews for the London games and could yet have more, has received a boost in the form of a new sponsorship deal with Providence Resources, the Irish oil and gas exploration and production company.
