FIRST SET: 3-3 Nadal grabs his crucial second break of the first set on his third break point attempt.

5-3 Nadal breaks again as Ferrer subsides, stretching a backhand into the net to give his opponent the lead.

SECOND SET

0-0 Nadal saves a break point with a big cross-court forehand which Ferrer fails to return.

1-0 Nadal makes the most of his escape by immediately breaking Ferrer to take a 2-0 lead in the set.

3-1 Ferrer spurns three points to break back, including one in a 29-shot rally which Nadal ends with a stunning cross-court winner.

5-1 Nadal's progress is briefly derailed by a protester who jumps on court wielding a flare. Nadal loses his concentration and is broken by Ferrer.

5-2 Nadal immediately breaks back to take a two-set lead.

THIRD SET

1-0 Nadal presses home his advantage by flopping down a forehand winner to break for a 2-0 lead.

2-0 Ferrer briefly gives himself hope by breaking Nadal back to 15.

4-3 A double-fault from Ferrer gives Nadal the potentially crucial break and the chance to serve for the title.

5-3 Nadal duly wraps up his return from injury by serving out to seal his eighth French Open title.
