Mulligan gets Euro call-up

athletics

IRELAND have had to make another enforced change to their senior women's team for next Sunday's European Cross-Country Championships in Belgrade.

Clonliffe's Sarah McCormack has withdrawn with a toe injury and will be replaced by DSD's Sarah Mulligan.

Mulligan was part of the side that took team bronze in the World Mountain Running Championships in Poland last September.

Graeme McDowell has signed up for the inaugural EurAsia Cup in Kuala Lumpur's Glenmarie Golf and Country Club from March 27-29.

Miguel Angel Jimenez – Europe's playing captain – unveiled McDowell, Jamie Donaldson, Victor Dubuisson and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano as the first four automatic qualifiers on his team.

THE European Tour has gone outside the ranks of professional golf for the first time to name a top-flight UK businessman to succeed Neil Coles as chairman of its board of directors.

David Williams steps in on January 1, when Coles (79) retires after 38 years.

HENRIK STENSON has been named the Race to Dubai European Tour golfer of the month for November after his win in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

Stenson is only the second player to win three player of the month awards in the same season after Ian Woosnam in 1987.
